Why You Really Need A Classic White Shirt

They say that a classic white shirt is an indispensable wardrobe staple. Or, as Karl Lagerfeld put it: „For me, the white shirt is the basis of everything. Everything else comes after. “

But what is it about the white shirt that makes women seek its perfection? What makes us scout the shops and scour the internet in search of an ideal specimen? Maybe it’s just clever marketing that has us all convinced that our wardrobes (and perhaps even our lives) will never be complete until we have a classic white shirt hanging in our closet…

Yes, The White Shirt is Timeless and Versatile

There are a lot of things going for the white button-up, from its versatility and timeless style to its aesthetic qualities and simple elegance. You can wear this shirt with everything and can always rely on it to create an effortlessly chic and gracefully stylish look.

The right white shirt has the power to elevate any outfit from decent to exceptional and from good to gorgeous. Dressed up or down, this clothing item is the ultimate canvas for any outfit and can be worn from work to weekend, and from dinner to party.

However, even though these are all good reasons to make sure you have a classic white shirt to reach for whenever a little smartness is required, none are why I wrote this post.

To me, there is one thing about the white button-up that makes it my go-to choice for any occasion that calls for a touch of elegance.

My White Shirt Makes Me Feel Invincible

It’s common knowledge that clothes shape the way other people see us but not only that. Numerous scientific studies have shown that what we wear also influence the way we think and can affect our mood and performance.

We all have our favorite items that make us feel empowered and like we can take on the world. These pieces of clothing work like a suit of armor to give us some extra confidence we need to not just look the part, but to feel it, too.

To me, personally, that item is the classic white shirt and here is why.

Creating and coordinating complicated outfits is a nightmare to me. The longer it takes for me to put together an outfit, the more insecure I become. The more time I spend in front of the mirror, the more things I see about myself and my outfit that I don’t like.

The feeling that looking presentable should not be an effort to achieve eats away at my confidence by the minute.

Which is why I desperately need simple, straightforward clothes in my wardrobe. The white shirt with its classic cut, clean lines and simplicity is something that I can always depend on to look flawless while also not having to work hard to achieve that look.

Nothing exudes a vibe of effortlessness quite like a white dress shirt. It’s almost absurd how even the fanciest versions of this clothing item (the French cuff version, to name one) have an air of nonchalance and ease about them.

The calm, cool, and effortless outward appearance that the white shirt lends me is attractive and impacts the way I feel inside accordingly. Feeling good about myself and not having to worry about the way I look, frees up a lot of energy to treat myself and others around me better. Which ultimately makes me the best version of myself.

Ultimately, when we hold our heads higher, people around us will likely notice our positive attitude as well. Not because of what we are wearing, but because we are glowing from the inside out.

Does it Work for Everyone?

Wearing my favorite white shirt gives me an injection of self-confidence and presence. However, the question remains, is this item of clothing so powerful as to do the same trick for everyone?

Everyone… is a lot of people. Everyone is too diverse, too enormous and too varied to make any definitive and universal statements.

Having wrote that, however, I do believe that a well-fitting white button-up can benefit any woman and any style.

So, the next time you need a little inspiration, why not try the perfect white shirt?
