High-paying Cloud Specialist Certifications
AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate: AWS’ Associate-level certification is called the AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate (AWS Certified Sys Arch – Assoc for short).
This certification is a great stepping stone to the AWS Certified Developer – Associate (AWS Certified Dev Arch – Assoc / AWS Certified Sys Eng Arch – Assoc for short) and the AWS Certified Developer – Architect (AWS Certified Dev Arch / AWS Certified Sys Eng Arch for short). While these achievements look similar, they’re quite different.
This certification exam is a 250-question, multiple-choice test that tests your understanding of AWS cloud architecture and implementation. You’ll complete a hands-on project and learn how to use AWS services efficiently.
The AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate (AWS Certified Sys Arch Assoc for short) is the next step in the AWS Certified Solutions Architect (AWS CSA for short) Certification journey, but it’s more of an audit than a full assessment. Earning the AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate (AWS Certified Sys Arch Assoc for short) will allow you to demonstrate your knowledge of the AWS cloud model and a few core services, such as Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2), Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (Amazon VPC), and Amazon DynamoDB.
It takes about three to six months to earn this certification, depending on how often you work on it. The materials are available online, but you can also train at a third-party training provider.
AWS Certified Developer – Associate:
The next step in the AWS Certified Solutions Architect Certification journey is the AWS Certified Developer – Associate (AWS CDA for short, to differentiate from the previous credential).
The AWS CDA for short is a 250-question, multiple-choice test that evaluates your knowledge of AWS cloud architecture and implementation. It will take you approximately three to four hours to complete. This certification focuses more on development skills than the first one. You’ll learn how to use the AWS services that you learned about in the first credential to create full, working applications.
As a cloud computer scientist, you’ll also have access to documentation as it becomes available. The AWS CDA for short is made up of four modules that cover architecture and implementation. It takes about three to six months to earn this credential, depending on how often you work on it and what training providers are available in your area, if any.
AWS Certified Sys Architect:
The last step in the AWS Certification Journey is the AWS Certified Sys Architect (AWS CSA for short) certification. This is also known as the Associate-level designation.
The AWS CSA for short is a 250-question, multiple-choice test that evaluates your knowledge of AWS cloud architecture and implementation. It will take you approximately three to four hours to complete. This certification focuses more on the architecture, so it should be taken after the Associate-level credential. You’ll learn how to use the core AWS services that you learned about in the Associate-level credential to create full, working applications.
This is one of the biggest certifications out there, so you’ll need a few months to earn it. Candidates can also practice with AWS on both Linux and Windows systems.
Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate:
This is one of the most popular cloud certifications to earn. It’s an industry-recognized certification that’s recognized by Microsoft and other top vendors as a core competency.
Microsoft has been a leader in the cloud space for a long time, so it makes sense that their signature certification for developers would be highly regarded. You can become a certified Solutions Associate through three different paths – Azure, Azure Stack, and System Center.
The Azure path is the quickest, and you’ll be able to earn your Certified Solutions Associate in three to four months. You’ll need one to two years of experience with Microsoft technologies before taking the exam. (This includes working on-site with a Microsoft Cloud Solution Provider.)
The Azure Stack path requires at least one year of experience, and you’ll need to pass the same exams as for the Azure certification path. You also have to complete 30 hours of hands-on training.
The System Center path takes a bit longer, but you’ll also have to complete 30 hours of hands-on training and a pre-requisite course on the Microsoft Cloud Platform.
W3C Certified Web Component Specialist:
To earn the W3C Certified Web Component Specialist (W3C CWS for short) credential, you need to have at least three years of experience building web applications and at least one year of experience in creating web components.
The W3C CWS for short is a 250-question, multiple-choice test that evaluates your knowledge of web components creation and client-side development. You’ll need to complete three to four hours of study and practice. You can take the test at PearsonVUE testing centers or at your own location.
This credential differs greatly from the others because it’s more focused on how you deliver a solution across any type of platform, not just web applications.
The Web Component Workshop is a free online course that teaches developers how to develop modern web components. It’s the first step towards earning your certificate in W3C Certified Web Component Specialist from the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). This course is recommended for developers with one or more years experience building web applications and websites, as well as those who want to learn more about web components.
