How to Boost your Productivity, Wake up your Brain (and your motivation) by Breaking the Routine
Ideally, every entrepreneur would like to be able to be 100% productive throughout the working day. But in practice, this is rarely the case, especially when you have several very boring tasks to perform or when it is a long term job (the reward then coming too late to be motivating on a daily basis).
Fortunately, it is possible to “hack” your brain to be at its peak when you need it. The secret? You just have to learn to break the routine!
Yes, having habits can be positive.
This is not to say that having a work routine is counterproductive. You can save precious time every day if you do certain tasks automatically, in a predetermined order whose effectiveness you have measured.
For example :
- perform complex tasks in the morning, when your brain is at its peak
- group the tasks to be done while travelling to make the most of wasted time
- devote two hours on a given day of the week or 5 minutes every morning to prospecting
- sort and tidy your desk every night
- make a monthly or quarterly report of all the commercial actions implemented
- give yourself breaks of a few minutes during the day to relax and unwind
Provided you integrate the needs of your brain
Your brain loves novelty, challenges, and fun. If you are not aware of it, he will sometimes use inappropriate means to achieve his goals.
For example, if you do a series of razor-sharp tasks, you will get bored. Your motivation will then collapse because your brain will suggest much nicer actions (ex: surfing the internet or on social networks) to reconnect with pleasure and satisfaction, which will have the effect of causing you to procrastinate. It’s that simple!
When your motivation is not there, watch Kissanime or AnimeSprout then there is a very good way to be on top of your productivity again: get out of the routine. You will send new stimuli to your brain, which will react by producing dopamine, a chemical that triggers a feeling of well-being. It is also dopamine which is directly responsible for motivation and concentration.
You will then experience lasting well-being because the satisfaction felt is stimulating for many hours, even if you then resume your routine. Another advantage, and not the least: the actions taken to seek the reward are perceived by the brain to be as important and rewarding as the reward itself. In this, dopamine is very different from endorphin, which is experienced as a reward in itself and which is short-lived (eg: the pleasure of eating a cake).
To introduce something new into your entrepreneurial days, you can for example:
- take a few minutes between several painful tasks to launch a much more fun project,
- carry out a creative activity,
- create mini-challenges to take up during the day: carry out such and such a task in 20 minutes maximum, insert such or such funny word into your prospecting sessions by telephone …
- work in another environment one or two afternoons a week (in a coworking space for example)
- test new things during your day: a new breathing technique to relax you, a new playlist to listen to, get in touch with people outside your usual relational circle.
This will create a refreshing break that will help motivate you and help you achieve your goals.
And you what do you think ? How do you go about awakening your motivation?
