How to Make It As a Fitness Model!
Could.People who follow my articles know that I generally write about nutrition, supplements, exercise, and other topics that are more scientifically based than subjective, like what is covered in this article. I decided to ditch my science geek persona and write about a topic that I know will be useful to thousands of people who would be and want to be fitness models.
Aside from being a well-known science-based “hard core” writer with no BS, why am I writing what some will see as a “fluff” article? Over the years, hundreds, maybe thousands of girls have asked me via email, letters, or in person, “How do I become a fitness model, Will? You’ve been in the business for a long time, surely?” you more than anyone.” I would know.” I get this from newbies and I get this from women who have been at it for a while but haven’t been able to “get in” effectively.
Article is useful
The fact is, I’ve been in the fitness, health, and bodybuilding business for a long time, and while I’m known as a science and nutrition-based “guru” of sorts, I’ve trained a lot of fitness athletes. and I have evaluated the physical state. and figures bikini shows for NPC, Fitness America, Fitness USA and other federations, as well as providing business and marketing advice to athletes of all kinds, including fitness models. So it’s not as far-fetched as it might seem that I’m going to use this space to cover a non-scientific topic, which is how to be a fitness model.
This article is useful for both seasoned guys and newbies who want to “get into” the business. If you are already a professional and successful fitness model, then I am sure you can get more useful information from this article.
First the bad news, there is no one way to become a successful fitness model. There is no single path or magical secret. However, there are some important things a person can do to greatly increase their chances of making it big in the fitness industry as a model, and perhaps use that success as a launch pad for bigger things like movies, TV, etc. .
Several top fitness models (Trish Stratus and Vicki Pratt come to mind, but there are many more) have embarked on entertainment careers of all kinds. In short, while there is no magic secret to success as a fitness model, this article will get you as close as possible to a model for success that you will find.
“Should I compete
This is a question I get all the time and it’s not easy to answer. In fact, the answer (drum roll) is yes and no. The person has to decide why they are competing to answer that question in the first place. For example, should you compete if your goal is to be a successful fitness model?
The answer is no. Many of today’s best-known fitness models have never competed or participated in some small shows and it was clearly not part of their success as fitness models. However, competing has its potential applications.
In high-end shows, there are often editors, publishers, photographers, supplement company owners, and other business people. So competing can improve your fame. Competing can also make sense if you’re trying to build a business related to your competition or benefit from winning a show.
For example, suppose you have a private training room that you’re trying to build. Of course, having the title of, say, Ms. Fitness America, or winning the NPC Nationals and being an IFBB pro will benefit your reputation and your company’s exposure. There are many scenarios where it would help to win a show for a business or other endeavor.
One is exposure
On the other hand, one has to realize that winning a show in no way guarantees success in the ultimate business (and it really is a business) as a fitness model. The phone won’t be ringing off the hook with big deals on contracts. It is also very important to realize that it is common for 4th, 6th, or 8th place in a figure or fitness show to get more press than the winner. Why? While the winner may have everything it takes to win that show, it’s often other girls who the editor, publishers, supplement companies, etc. they feel they are more marketable.
I’ve seen it many times where the winner was shocked to realize that she wasn’t even close to getting the attention she was expecting and other lower level girls got attention in the form of photo shoots, magazine covers, etc. Something to take into account. when you ask yourself the important question “should I participate and if so, why do I participate?” Answer that question and you will know the answer to the heading of this section. Winning a title can be a stepping stone, but in itself it does not guarantee success in the fitness industry. It’s like a college degree; it’s what you do with it.
Utilities. If you’re competing for fun, definitely go for it, but it geared the above towards competing when it comes to the business aspect of being a fitness model.
Right body
Well, after reading the above you have decided that you are going to compete or will compete again. If you do not plan to participate, you can skip this section. The biggest flaw I see here is that a lot of girls have the right body for the wrong federation. Each federation has its own evaluation criteria and a competitor will do poorly simply because they don’t bother to research which program is best for them.
I’ll give you a perfect real world example of this. I recently reviewed a show whose round figure criteria was that women should be rounder, softer with a certain tone, rather than more muscular and athletic with less body fat than other federations would allow. This show featured one of the most beautiful women I have ever seen. She was well proportioned, muscular, slender, and athletically built, with narrow hips and waist, and broader shoulders. How did she do on this show? She didn’t even finish in the top ten!
supposed
Why? Because it wasn’t what we were supposed to be looking for and it didn’t meet the criteria. After the show I told her that she looked amazing, but this may not be the federation for her. I told him that he had a much more NPC-like body, where a little more muscle, athletic build, and less body fat are rewarded.
The next week I was a judge on an NPC fitness, figure and bodybuilding show and there she was. How did she do it? She won the entire show and all the judges unanimously voted for her number one.
Conversely, if her body type tends to be rounder and more toned, but with a little more body fat, wider hips (but not fat!), she may want to join the Fitness Contests. America, for example. If you are going to compete:
(1) find out exactly what the evaluation criteria are for that federation and
(2) go to those shows as a spectator from different federations and see which one best suits your physique, style, etc.
(3) You must decide if you truly have the athletic ability to compete in a fitness competition (which requires a routine) or figure/bikini competition.
I often see women who would do well in a figure show, but don’t really have the athletic skills, performing the necessary routines to compete with other athletes on the show. Some programs allow you to do both games and some don’t.
Networking
In many ways, this is the area that will make or break any business. Yet people in the fitness industry are doing incredibly poorly. If you don’t relate well and market yourself, you can almost forget. That you are truly successful as a fitness model, or successful in just about any business. For the sake of space, we stick to physical form.
When I started, I was a self-marketing machine. Could be found at every show I thought might be an opportunity, touring the islands of trade shows. Bodybuilding shows, fitness shows, and others. I dealt countless cards and took home a million, and I followed them all. I went to so many meetings, trips, parties, etc. related to the industry as I could. Now I have the reputation and experience in the industry that. I don’t have to go to a show like this unless I feel like it or have meetings. But they were very helpful in the beginning.
Amazed
I am always amazed at how many fitness models. Come up to me who have never been to Arnold Classic Fitness. Weekend or Mr. Olympia, or the trade shows like NNFA Expo West and others. If you want to be successful in the fitness business, you better treat it like a business.
I’ve seen a lot of pretty girls who want to be fitness models. Think that if they stare long enough. will offer to put their face on the cover of a magazine. Newsflash, there are millions of beautiful women out there and to get you have. Go all out to get that business like everyone else by networking. Have a good agent (if you can afford something like that) to do it for you. you.
Pick a few major industry trades shows to attend (some of which are above) and attend them every year. Have a plan of attack for how you plan to market yourself and your network. Many fitness models, bodybuilders, etc. they see a show as a big party. If this is you, have fun at the party, but don’t think you’re really promoting. Yourself as a serious businessman or athlete.
